Kenya Building Collapse: Child Pulled From Rubble Alive

A child has been pulled alive from the rubble after a building collapse in Nairobi killed at least seven people. The survivor was found 10 hours after the building collapsed on Friday night in the poor neighbourhood of Huruna as torrential rain lashed the Kenyan capital. More than 120 people were rescued and taken to hospital, according to AFP.http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/04/kenya-building-collapse-nairobi-160430091931593.html It is unknown how many people are still trapped in the debris.Nairobi Deputy Governor, Jonathan Mueke, said an investigation would look into why the building collapsed.

“The building went down during the heavy rains, but we still want to establish if all the procedures were followed when it was constructed,” he said. Area legislator Stephen Kariuki said this was the second building to collapse in a year. He blamed the county government for failing to follow through with demolitions of buildings that were identified as unfit for human habitation. Nairobi has seen a building boom over the last few years, but there are questions about the quality of materials used and the speed of construction.

Bishop Joins 109 Couples In Nasarawa

Most Rev. Mathew Audu, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday in Masaka joined 109 couples in a mass wedding in the state.

Speaking during his third pastoral visit to St. Martin`s Catholic Church, Masaka, Audu appealed to relatives of the new couples to allow them to build their marriages and not interfere in their private lives.

“As newly wedded couples, you must love each other just as Christ Jesus loved the church and died to set souls free,” the priest said.

“You must respect each other’s feelings; care for each other, share views and reason together in peace and unity.

“You must not allow a third party to come into your matter; always invite God to intervene in your case.

“Ensure that you are coordinated in all your dealings and make the word of God your standard, your pillar, your faith and your hope.

“If you can keep these entire commandments, your marriage will be perfect and other couples will want to copy from you,” he said.

Enugu Massacre: Mr president keep your sympathies

Editor’s note: Following the attack on Ukpabi Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu state by suspected Fulani herdsmen, a lot of questions have been raised about the value Nigerian leaders and security operatives place on the lives of people.

In this article by Jude Ndukwe, the author wants the president to keep his sympathy expressed over the unfortunate incident to himself and take more actions in flushing out the criminals behind this deadly act.

President Muhammadu Buhari

“As they campaign vigorously for elections, you would think they are coming to grow the economy, enthrone justice, breed unity and tolerance, love for one another. No, they are coming to enthrone Hausa/Fulani supremacy, to reposition the security agencies by sacking all competent hands and replace them with their kinsmen in order to drive their ethnic domination of the south; the Fulani herdsmen will be armed and encouraged to slaughter us with impunity and their masters will protect them. They are coming to ensure that my people are enslaved forever. Those who do not believe me will soon see it happen before their eyes” – Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), in an address to an assembly of the Igbo in the UK on February 6, 2014.

When wedding photographer said “kiss,” 4-year-old flower girl did THIS

As a rule, wedding is the bride and groom’s day to shine. But clearly nobody ever explained that to 4-year-old flower girl Anderson! At her mother’s wedding, she expertly photo-bombed newlywed photo by kissing a little ring bearer!

“I set up the entire wedding party for a formal shot as I do with every wedding, and then asked the bride and groom to kiss,” photographer Leah Bullard told.

“Since Anderson had been calling herself the bride the whole day, she assumed I was referring to her and went in for a kiss too.

” Bullard described the moment as “hilarious,” adding that “children in weddings always bring an extra light to the day.”

Nigerian currency drops against Dollar at parallel market

Naira
Nigerian currency drops against Dollar at parallel market The naira lost N1 on Friday afternoon, from the N320.5 to a dollar it traded on Wednesday.

A bureau de change operator counts U.S. currency notes in Abuja, March 12, 2015. In Nigeria, holding naira has become increasingly unpopular as it has lost its value. Basic everyday goods can still be paid for in the local currency but many items are scarce and Nigerians need U.S. dollars for imports such as drugs or fabrics sold by small-time traders, to send money to relatives abroad or to purchase western clothes that are important status symbols. Faced with a massive drop in oil revenues and declining reserves, Nigeria's central bank devalued the naira and then imposed rules restricting access to dollars to all but importing companies to curb what it termed "speculation". The Naira on Friday, April 29, depreciated further, exchanging at N321.5 to the dollar at the parallel market.

NAN reports that the naira lost N1 on Friday afternoon, from the N320.5 to a dollar it traded on Wednesday.

However, it traded against the Pound Sterling and the Euro at N460 and N463. It had previously exchanged at N457 and N361 respectively on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Nigerian currency maintained N197 to the greenback at the official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) rate.

Traders at the market noted that in spite of the appreciation in the price of oil at the international market, the naira continued to fall.

They, however, said that a sustained rise in the price of oil would shore up the value of the naira at the market.
