MMM membership grows despite Reps order to security agents

Some Abuja residents on Thursday said that they have benefited immensely from the popular financial programme, MMM Nigeria Scheme, and have no intention of leaving the scheme anytime soon. 

The Mavrodi Mondial Movement popularly known as MMM has gained popularity among Nigerians as the programme promises a monthly payment of 30 per cent interest on loans provided by participants. 

This is against the backdrop of the House of Representatives order in November that operators of the scheme should be arrested to protect Nigerians from financial devastation. 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in spite of the order, MMM’s membership had continued to grow. Some residents who spoke to NAN said that MMM was very beneficial to Nigerians.

Oluwatosin Folarin has made Nigeria proud Folarin, 23, a guidance and counselling graduate of the University of Lagos, worked on several development project in rural communities in order to secure livelihood which earned her the award. VSO- Voluntary Service Overseas is an International Development Charity with a vision for a world without poverty and a mission to bring people together to fight poverty. 

When I was pregnant with my first son, our lives were finally settled. We bought a big house, two cars… We apparently lived happily. This is not the best time for veteran Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu. Death visited the home of the amiable actor and took away his aged father. The veteran actor lost his father Pa Geoffrey Nwafor Udokwu(Ononenyi) on Tuesday, November 22. 

 The elderly man died in his home country in Nkwelle Ogidi in Anambra state. Bob-Manuel and his wife Cassandra have been receiving visitors concerning the death of the patriarch of the family. 

MMM participant acquires multi-million naira jeep (photos)

In the midst of recession crisis in Nigeria, a man, Potokri Forgive, has acquired Lexus 330 jeep, all thanks to the controversial money doubling scheme called MMM. 

Mr Potokri Forgive in his new jeep According to Mr Potokri, it was the money he got from MMM that he used in buying the jeep.

 Professor Wole Soyinka has lashed out at Nigerian trolls on the internet who have asked him to fulfil his vow to rip his American Green Card if Donald Trump is elected president. The Nobel Laureate had said in Oxford, England that if Trump won the US election, he would tear his Green Card and pack-up. Following the victory of Trump at the polls on November 8, Nigerians took to the internet asking Soyinka to fulfil his promise and rip his Green Card into shreds. 

In an article shared by The Cable, Soyinka described those calling him to tear his Green Card as ignorant as there was no way the card could be literally shredded with the hand. He insisted that he would leave the US as promised by questioned why many were interested in his decision as he had not called them to do same 

 

The Nobel Laureate listed a number a countries he has issued “red card” in the past and had stopped visiting them without causing a lot of buzz. He said: “It is now some twelve to fifteen years since I issued a Red Card to Australia, unannounced. That Red Card subsists till today.

The United States has prevented the President Muhammadu Buhari administration from acquiring the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft from Brazil.

Punch reports that Nigeria was almost close to striking a deal with Brazil to acquire the fighter jet crucial in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram before the US stopped the transaction.
 

A presidency source revealed that the aircraft was produced by the US and sold to Brazil who were initially enthusiastic about selling to Nigeria but later became reluctant.

US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has blamed Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Director James Comey for her defeat to Donald Trump in Tuesday’s election. Clinton reportedly made this known in a conference call with her top campaign donors on Saturday, November 12. 

According to two participants on the call, Trump was able to seize on both of Comey’s statements and used them to attack Clinton. 

FBI Director James Comey The participants also revealed that Clinton told her supporters on Saturday that her team had drafted a memo, which looked at the changing opinion polls leading up to the election, but the letter from Comey proved to be a turning point, Reuters reports. The memo prepared by Mrs. Clinton’s campaign said: “Voters who decided which candidate to support in the last week were more likely to support Trump than Clinton. “In the end, late breaking developments in the race proved one hurdle too many for us to overcome.” Clinton has kept a low profile since her defeat after delivering her concession speech on Wednesday morning, November 9.

Tinubu’s new party getting support as Lagos organises rally (photos)

The projection that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will break away from the All Progressives Congress is looking feasible as a grand rally in support of the chieftain was organised in Lagos. 

Tinubu has received support after his position in the APC, a party he contributed to its emergence and success, was being relegated to the background. 

It was reported that Tinubu was being left out of important decision making in the APC increasing speculation that he would leave the party. Following the crises that engulfed the party in the Ondo gubernatorial primaries, Tinubu asked Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the chairman of the party, to resign,

Alex Ajayi confirms issuing WAEC certificate to Buhari

– The issue of President Buhari’s WAEC certificate has finally been put to rest

 – Alex Ajayi who is a former WAEC registrar confirmed signing Buhari’s certificate 

– He also said he issued certificates to Abacha and Babangida Alex Ajayi who is a former registrar of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has opened up that he issued certificate to Muhammadu Buhari in the 60s. 

The issue of President Buhari’s certificate caused a controversy in the run-up to the presidential election in 2015 and even after he was elected, petitions have been submitted in court challenging the legitimacy of Buhari whom many believe does not possess a WAEC certificate or its equivalence.

FG set to shut down MMM in Nigeria, Nigerians react

The federal government of Nigeria is taking moves to shut down MMM operations in Nigeria. Speaking at the 2016 Lagos International Trade Fair, the managing director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, said that regulators have set up a committee to see the end of the nefarious activities of the ‘fraudsters’ across the country.

 

“I wish to sound a word of caution to members of the public on the activities of illegal fund managers, otherwise known as Wonder Banks. It is worrisome to note that despite repeated advice, many unsuspecting members of the public are still falling victims to the mouth-watering interest being offered by these illegal fund managers.

The House of Representatives has ordered all law enforcement agencies to start arresting those promoting the MMM Ponzi scheme. The lower house of legislature on Wednesday, November 9 agreed that the scheme meant trouble for Nigerians and should therefore be stopped. Anybody found promoting would be treated as a criminal and arrested by security agencies. 

US election: TB Joshua under attack over FAILED prediction

Popular Nigerian prophet Temitope Joshua of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) during his church sermon on Sunday, November 6, predicted who will win the presidential election in the United States of America.

Kenyan-born American actor Owiso Odera dead

Internationally acclaimed Kenyan-born actor, Owiso Odera, who was best known for his role as Papa Tunde in the CW series The Americans, collapsed and died while he was performing. 

According to numerous reports, Owiso who was living in Santa Monica, California, had been performing on stage in Kentucky when he suddenly collapsed. All efforts to revive him were not fruitful as he was pronounced dead just a few minutes later.

The sudden death of the 43-year-old on Friday, November 4, still baffles everyone, including the deceased family. Mr Odera, whose biggest showing was in popular American series The Originals, had spent the last week acting on location in Washington DC in a new film Measure Plus Dido.

While speaking to The Standard on Sunday about the sad incident, Odera’s brother, Peter Oruko, said the family was yet to come to terms with the sudden demise of their brother. 

“We are devastated by his demise. It is like a bad dream. I haven’t come to terms with the news of his death. This is unbearable,” said his youngest brother Peter Oruko. 

A distressed Oruko described his brother as a warm person who was in constant touch with the family, adding that “the last time we spoke he insisted that I join him down in Santa Monica to pursue my education.”

The deceased went to the US after completing his studies at St Mary’s School. He later got a scholarship to study at an Indiana College and proceeded to pursue a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the University of California San Diego. 

While in the US, he joined a group of highly talented actors in Hollywood and Broadway among them award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. 

Odera is the son of prominent scholar Prof Odera Oruko and has been survived by his wife Nicole and siblings Roney, Sheilla, Sharon, Milly and Peter. The cause of his death is yet to be established. 

May his soul rest in perfect peace!
