Lagos, Abuja police fingered in excessive abuse of power
– Only 2 compliant were filed against the force on the ground of dirty in person – Lagos and Abuja command have been rated high in excessive abuse of power, force, extortion
CSP Abayomi Shogunle Men of the Nigerian police force in Lagos and Abuja command have been rated high in excessive abuse of power, force, extortion, demand for money for bail, dirty in person, professional misconduct amongst others. A total of 1946 complaints were recorded in a 100 days complaints distribution report compiled by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) unit of the force headquarters, Abuja.
The Lagos state police command came top with a total of 583 complaints representing 30% while the Abuja command follows closely with 219 complaints representing 11.25%.
Police complain distribution chart The complains made against the officers of the force include excessive abuse of power, force, extortion, demand for money for bail, dirty in person, professional misconduct, traffic related, police involvement in civil case, inaction, incivility, entitlement related. In 100 days across the 36 states of the federation, 801 complaints was filed against the police force on the ground of professional misconduct as 289 complaints was filed on the ground of demand for money for bail.
145 complaints were made against the police on abuse of power; 84 complaints were reported against the police for extortion. 117 complaints were filled on the ground of incivility In the entire country only 2 compliant were filed against the force on the ground of dirty in person. The two cases were made against officers in the Lagos command. As part of it disciplinary measures, an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has been issued official query by the office of the force secretary just as a traffic warden from service has been dismissed fter being found guilty of official corruption in an Orderly. Also, there was redeployment of several officers of different cadre from their duty posts. The Delta state police command also redeployed all divisional police officers (DPO).
