Abba Moro was re-invited by the EFCC over N650million immigration recruitment scandal.
Comrade Abba Moro, a former minister of interior, was detained by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, February 22. The ex-minister along with Anaesthesia Nwaobia, a former permanent secretary, and a deputy-director were reportedly detained over N650million immigration recruitment scandal. The commission is probing how this sum collected from the applicants who indicated interest in recruitment exercise was spent. According to The Nation, the three suspects were re-invited by the anti-graft agency ahead of their arraignment in court on Tuesday, February 23. Speaking with Premium Times, a source at the commission, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “They were brought into the commission’s headquarters today and will be arraigned on a 12-count charge in the Federal High Court Abuja on Tuesday.” Some of the charges against Moro and his colleagues include obtaining by false pretence, procurement offences, corrupt practices and money laundering.

Meanwhile, the fate of David Parradang, a former comptroller-general of Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), is still unknown. The EFCC had earlier reopened investigations into the recruitment scandal with the interrogation of Paradang on September 15, 2015. The former controller-general of NIS was said to have made statements in his defence, which made it necessary for the EFCC to interrogate more people in relation with the incident. Although Moro has blamed the former Immigration boss for the incidents, those loyal to Parradang had traced the tragedy to the ex-minister of interior and his business partners.
